Lecture
From Photo to Fabric and More: We’ve discovered an easy way to print photos on fabric using an inkjet printer, and we’ve got lots of inspirations to share for using them. Our lecture is a trunk show featuring quilts with fabric photos, sure to get your creative juices flowing. We’ll tell you about the process we use, as well. Supplies will be available for purchase.
We can also include a computer slide show if you wish. (We bring our own equipment, except for the projection screen, but it works best if the room can be darkened.)
Cost: $250 plus mileage and expenses.
Workshops
We are available to do half-day or full-day workshops on printing photos on fabric.
Half-day workshop: Fabric Printing for Beginners This class is a demonstration on various products, software, and computer techniques that can be used to print photos on fabric with an inkjet printer. We will cover equipment needed, how to choose and care for photos, how to get them into the computer, how to improve them, and how to print them on fabric. We will be working with a computer projector, so it should be possible to darken the room. Class size, minimum 6 students, maximum 20.
Full-day workshop: Advanced Fabric Printing Techniques We bring our computer equipment, including a printer and scanner, and prepared fabric sheet. Each student has an opportunity to scan their own photo, work on it on the computer in Photoshop Elements, and print it on fabric. We project what is happening on the computer on to a screen, so that students will learn from each other's challenges. Access to water nearby is desirable. Length of class depends on the number of students, allow approximately 1/2 hour per student. Class size, minimum 6 students, maximum 12. Materials fee, $5.
Full-day workshop: Fracturing Images: (Project class) Learn how easy it is to make a fractured image from a simple flower photo. Bring your laptop computer loaded with Photoshop Elements, v.2 or higher, and a 6" square image of a flower. You'll go home with your own 18” square fractured image to print. For an example, look at the Fractured Rose under Creative Quilt Ideas on this website.
Cost: We charge $250 for a half-day class and $400 for a full day class plus mileage and expenses. For shops, we are happy to recommend our favorite brands, and to provide supplies at wholesale cost for resale to your customers. For groups, we appreciate the opportunity to sell our products.
New! Individual Training Sessions, $50 hr (includes travel time). An opportunity to work one-on-one with us to master your programs on your computer. You should have a scanner and inkjet printer connected to your computer, and either Photoshop Elements or Photoshop installed. Find out what you can do and how to do it. We will help you solve some of the challenges you face in working with your images. Contact us to set up a day and time.
Judging Quilts
Brief Bio: Jeannie was one of the first judges certified by National Quilting Association, and wrote The Challenge of Judging workbook. I am an active judge in Colorado, and have taught 3-day workshops in New Zealand and Australia. I've judged quilt shows on a national and international level. To me, learning about what judges look for is one of the best ways for a quilter to improve her workmanship.
Lecture: How to Make a Blue-Ribbon Quilt An overview of how a judge evaluates workmanship and design in quilts, with examples from my own work. Cost, $250 plus mileage and expenses.
All-day workshop: Do-it-Yourself Judging Examine your own work with a judge’s eyes. Students should bring one or two of their own quilts. We will look at construction and workmanship so you can evaluate your own quilt and see what could be improved. Tips for problem areas will also be given. We will also look at the visual impact, using the elements and principles of design. Cost, $450 plus mileage and expenses.
